TS Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi has come out to clear the air on what led to defender Khulumani Ndamane to be axed from South Africa national team Bafana Bafana squad.
The 25-year-old was among players initially summoned by head coach Hugo Broos in the provisional squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin.
However, while naming his final squad, the Belgian confirmed he had been forced to drop Ndamane because he did not have a passport. According to Sukazi, they have moved with speed to secure a new passport for the player and the ball is back on Broos' court to recall him for Bafana duties.
“It is a prime requirement when you play for TS Galaxy to have a passport – we are clear on this in our induction program at the start of the season. We are no sure how the process skipped Ndamane,” said Sukazi as quoted by SABC Sports.
“We are a club that takes camps in Europe and were the first ones to open that route for our sister clubs, it means it’s almost compulsory for a TS Galaxy player to have a passport.
“We have already resolved this. Ndamane will have his passport on Monday. We took a view that this is a matter of national interest and coach Broos can have his player in the squad as he wishes.”
Broos’ charges resume the World Cup qualifiers when they host their COSAFA neighbours at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, Limpopo, on Friday, 21. They will then fly to Ivory Coast via chartered flight to face Benin in the second qualifier a few days later.
The Beninese will host Bafana Bafana in the West Africa nation after their home grounds were deemed unsuitable for international matches.
