Botswana senior national football team coach Morena Ramoreboli has explained why he named the domestic league’s leading scorer Thero Setsile in the final 26-member squad for the forthcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The Botswana Premier League joint top scorer Setsile, who has 10 goals for Jwaneng Galaxy FC this season, is the squad’s notable inclusion. The Zebras face Algeria on March 21, 2025, then Somalia five days later.
Addressing the press on Friday, Ramoreboli explained the factors he considered in naming Sethile and other players in the squad for the Group C games. The group also comprises Mozambique, Guinea, and Uganda.
“We have profiled based on what we have currently. Thero Sitsile has been consistent and was with the team before so he will help us. We can’t run away from the fact that when you play against Algeria, you play differently from how you can approach a match against Somalia,”’ the ex-Galaxy mentor said.
“The camp in Jwaneng informed us who we needed for these games. The profiling was key to ensure we have players who can cover the distance. We have tried to ensure a better balance in terms of being able to attack and defend.”
The South African coach also named foreign-based players such as Libya-based Tumisang Orebonye, his Al Ittihad team mate Thatayaone Ditlhokwe and Kabelo Seakanyeng of Maghreb Fes in Morocco.
