Tanzania national team head coach Hemed ‘Morocco’ Suleiman has revealed their desire to compete with one of Africa’s and the world’s best team in Morocco when they battle in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixture at Stade Municipal on Wednesday, March 26.

The East African nation have had enough time to prepare at Mkwakwani Stadium for the fixture in North Africa following the cancellation of their matchday five clash against Congo Brazzaville.

While Taifa Stars lost 3-0 against Morocco in their last meeting, coach Suleiman is adamant that they have what it takes to bring down one of the Africa’s and world’s best teams when they face off.

“The players’ progress in training is truly encouraging. Their high morale during these sessions in Tanga is remarkable. Our focus is clear: to achieve positive results against Morocco. Training has been intense, and we are committed to this goal,” Suleiman said as quoted by the Guardian.

“Our recent history with Morocco, including our AFCON encounter, has fuelled the players’ desire to prove themselves. They want to show they can compete with one of Africa’s and the world’s best teams. We must stay true to our principles and maintain rigorous training.

“We have analysed past game footage to identify areas for improvement. This self-assessment is crucial for us to perform at our peak. Additionally, we are studying our opponents’ strategies to better prepare for the match.”

Tanzania will head into the fixture minus their lead striker and captain Mbwana Samatta, who has been ruled out owing to an injury. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Aishi Manula is another player, who could miss the away fixture.

Taifa Stars are currently placed third in Group E with six points, three fewer than the Atlas Lions, who are leading the pile while Niger are second on six points.
