Liberia coach Thomas Kojo has selected top players including captain Oscar Dorley and top defender Sampson Dweh for the Lone Stars' important 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches this month.

The Lone Stars will be looking to defend their home turf at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex when they host Group H leaders Tunisia on March 19 followed by minnows São Tomé and Príncipe on March 24. Liberia remain firmly in contention, sitting three points back of Tunisia in third place on seven points.

  • The group winner qualifies for the 2026 FIFA World Cup

  • Four of the nine group runners-up qualify for a playoff to determine Africa's representative at the intercontinental qualifying playoff.

It is an excellent opportunity for the West African nation, who came closest to qualifying for the World Cup in 2002 when legend George Weah's last hurrah saw Liberia finish only a point behind Nigeria in their qualifying group. After a disappointing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign under previous coach Mario Marinică, Kojo will hope his team can show their best in front of the nation's passionate support.

Dorley (Slavia Prague) and Dweh (Viktoria Plzeň), who are currently the nation's most visible players with successful ongoing tenures in the top flight of Czech football, will form the spine of the Lone Stars team.

The versatile Dorley will line up in the heart of the midfield while powerful central defender Dweh will anchor the defense. Versatile defender Prince Balde, based in the Swedish third tier, as well as Mark Pabai and Sebastin Teclar are expected to feature in the defense. Dorley is likely to partner in the midfield with English-born Nohan Kenneh, a former England youth international who currently plays his club football with Scotland's Ross County on loan from fellow Scottish Premiership side Hibernian.

Creative playmaker and dribbler Divine Teah is also set to have an important role. The 18-year-old starlet recently secured a big money move from Swedish club Hammarby to join Dorley at Slavia Prague where he recently made his competitive debut, playing 65 minutes in a cup victory over Taborsko on February 26.

The rest of the squad is mostly composed of domestic based players. Heaven Eleven striker William Gibson could be selected to lead the top of the formation but faces competition from Augustine Otu, who is in strong form near the top of the scoring charts with Egyptian second tier side Tersana (11 goals).
