The Chadian Football Federation (FTFA) has named Tahir Zakaria as their new head coach for the senior men's national side. The Federation opted not to renew the contract of former coach Kévin Nicaise. Zakaria has already commenced work as the new trainer to prepare Les Sao for upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.
Chad were left without a coach after Nicaise’s tenure ended. FTFA needed to wait until the World Cup qualifier games to approach to name a new head coach. The contract details of the new head trainer are yet to be disclosed to the public.
Zakaria led local side AS PSI to a maiden league crown in 2023. He will face a mounting task in qualifying fixtures at Ghana and then in Morocco against Comoros in Group I. Zakaria summoned 30 players from the local league for the encounters. The team camped at Milezi Football Academy for its preparations.
Chad are last in their group after losing four matches in a row and little is expected of the team, who elected not to call in foreign-based stars like Samsunspor striker Marius Mouandilmandji and SuperSport United defender Éric Mbangossoum.
