Sierra Leone footballing legend Mohamed Kallon's list of players was announced on Friday for upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches as the Leone Stars prepare for Guinea-Bissau and Group A leaders Egypt. Kallon and his charges, currently fourth in Group A, will host Guinea-Bissau in neighboring Liberia on March 20 before traveling to Cairo to clash with Egypt five days later.

  • The group winner qualifies for the 2026 FIFA World Cup

  • Four of the nine group runners-up qualify for a playoff to determine Africa's representative at the intercontinental qualifying playoff.

Kallon called in an interesting mix of youth and experience including 40-year-old striker Kei Kamara, who has been out of contract since leaving Major League Soccer club Los Angeles FC at the end of 2024. Most notable is the involvement of 18-year-old sensation Juma Bah, a much needed reinforcement for a struggling Sierra Leone defense after veteran Steven Caulker withdrew himself from consideration.

Bah, now on loan at French Ligue 1 Lens following his transfer to Manchester City, is likely to make his debut against Guinea-Bissau. Sierra Leone leaked goals (10 in 6 matches) during their failed 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign even with former captain Caulker involved and the Leone Stars need results. Of note, the goalkeeping position is composed entirely of domestic-based options with 2021 AFCON here Mohamed Kamara not involved.

Along with Kamara, top rated domestic-based forward Musa Noah Kamara was called in as well as versatile forward Mustapha Bundu who currently plays for Plymouth Argyle in the English second tier EFL Championship. Alhassan Koroma, who can play either in the midfield or as a supporting forward, is also another name to watch. The 24-year-old has 5 goals and 4 assists for Qatar Stars League club Al Shahaniya this season.

Domestic-based members of the senior side and Kei Kamara prepared for the upcoming matches with a friendly match against the nation's under-20 side. It will be a tall task for Sierra Leone to get results considering the absence of numerous players like striker Amadou Bakayoko and other attackers based abroad such as Augustus Kargbo, Issa Kallon and Sulley Kaikai.
