Former Ghana international, Mohammed Ahmed “Polo” has described the invitation of three home based players into the Black squad as “just a formality.”

Hearts of Oak goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare and defenders, Razak Simpson and Kamaradini of Nations FC and Medeama respectively are in coach Otto Addo’s 23-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar this month.

Ghana will first host Chad on Friday March 21 in day five fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium and Ahmed Polo does not believe any of the local players will get the chance to play in that game.

“I don’t have anything to say, it’s just a formality, these boys are not going to feature. They should feature them.

“A coach worth his salt will feature them. We have coaches who are Ghanaians and did not even play football but they crafted the local players and gave them a chance at a point in time to showcase what they have. Because they have that character, they were prepared.

“Today, it’s money matter. Those you are calling, they fear their money if he is injured.

“Don’t you hear the Sulley Muntaris, they’ve been complaining that when they got injured the nation did not take care of them.

“We played with injuries and sometimes we are injected to play with it but God being so good our legs are still working today. It is the younger ones who will come make an impact as for these players, they are playing European football so they don’t know our style of play.

“We need to bring back our style of football and it all technical direction because with our football we express ourselves with the ball.”

The four time African champions will travel to Morocco after the Chad encounter to battle Madagascar in game day six on March 24.

Ghana is tied on nine points with Island nation, Comoros in Group I after four matches and the West African nation needs to win all two fixtures in increase their chance of qualifying for the World Cup to be hosted by Mexico, Canada and USA next year.
