Botswana coach Morena Ramoreboli has praised the Zebras for their 2-0 win over Somalia on Tuesday, saying it could be the beginning of good things.

He said this after his side needed late goals to break the resistance over Somalia in the Group G match of the World Cup qualifiers at Francistown Stadium.

The former Jwaneng Galaxy trainer said he was impressed with the Zebras emerging consistency after recovering from the previous week’s 3-1 loss to Algeria.

“In the process of building a competitive side, you should always fight for consistency,” he said. “[Today, there was] a proper repetition of football actions which the boys tried to do. It was a very good performance going into the final third. It is just unfortunate that we lost [Tumisang] Orebonye too early in the match,” he said.

The South African-born mentor also credited the win to the impact of substitutes such as Gilbert Baruti, Benson Mangolo, Thabang Sesinyi, Tshepo Kaselebale, and Lebogang Ditsele who replaced the likes of Tero Setsile, Segolame Boy, Kabelo Seikaneng and Orebonye.

“I need to give credit to the substitutions we made. They gave us the balance. Honestly speaking, it was a team performance. These are the performances we wish and pray that we get every game. When we dominate, maybe this is the beginning of good things to come. There is progress and I am happy that we did not concede,” Ramoreboli added.

The Zebras won the game after Gape Mohutsiwa and Mothusi Johnson scored in the 74th and 84th minutes respectively to move into third place, six points behind group leaders Algeria who thumped Mozambique 5-1 on the same night.
