Former Al Hilal Omdurman striker, Abednego Tetteh has sent a letter to Ghana Premier League side, Heart of Lions announcing his “retirement” from the club.

Tetteh, 34, joined Heart of Lions as a free agent after ending his stay with fellow top flight side, Bibiani Gold Stars last season.

Prior to sending the letter to end his marriage with the Kpando based club, he had made seven league appearances under veteran coach Bashir Hayford with no goals scored. His last appearance came on November 3 as a substitute in a 1-0 victory at Asante Kotoko.

Part of his “retirement” letter to Heart of Lions read:

“Please accept this letter as formal notice of retirement from Heart of Lions Football Club, effective 4th of March, 2025."

The letter continued to thank the club for opportunities and the experience gathered and memories shared.

“I am grateful for the opportunities, experience and memories.”

Abednego Tetteh’s club experience includes domestic stints with Bechem United where he scored 13 goals in 24 league games.

The performance courted the interest of Sudanese club Al Hilal Omdurman in 2016 where he spent just a season, winning the Sudanese top flight in 2017.

He joined Ethiopia side Jimma Abba Buna in 2017 and then a return to Sudan with Hilal Obied before spells at Indian clubs Real Kashmir and TRAU.

He returned home to join continental club masters Hearts of Oak but that union was marred by a lack of playing time despite winning the domestic double with them in 2020.

His contract was mutually ended by Hearts of Oak and he joined King Faisal and later Gold Stars where he won the Ghana Premier League top scorer with 18 goals. His last club prior to joining Heart of Lions was Faroe Islands side FC Hoyvik.
