Achraf Hakimi scores twice as PSG labour to stroll past stubborn Lyon

Morocco international Achraf Hakimi was among the goals as Paris Saint-Germain battled to to a 3-2 win over Lyon at the Groupama Stadium on Sunday.


The victory, which was masterminded by Hakimi not only ended Les Gones’ seven-match unbeaten home run in the league, but also enabled PSG to move 13 points clear at the French Ligue 1 summit.


After a 0-0 outcome in the first-half, Bradley Barcola’s low cross from the left was pulled behind the crowded six-yard box, where Hakimi was arriving to rifle an effort into the bottom corner for PSG’s opener in the 53rd minute.


Two minutes later, PSG should have gone 2-0 up when Ousmane Dembélé missed an open sitter, but he made amends in the 59th minute when he picked out the top corner after a direct run at the heart of the Lyon defence for a 2-0 lead.


However, Lyon pulled a goal back in the 83rd minute when Georges Mikautadze squared for Rayan Cherki to make it 2-1 before Hakimi ensured PSG moved 3-1 up in the 85th minute when the Moroccan player doubled his personal tally with another precise finish into the far corner after a move initiated from the middle of play by PSG.



Former Arsenal player Ainsley Maitland-Niles set up Corentin Tolisso, who headed home Lyon’s second but it was too little too late as PSG held on for their 18th win of the campaign that helped them cement their lead on the log.


Hakimi has so far this season managed 18 appearances, scored four goals and provided five assists.
