DR Congo striker Yoane Wissa stated he found the 2025 AFCON draw a fair one for his country. Congo were drawn together with Senegal, Benin and Botswana on Monday at the draw conducted in Rabat, Morocco.
In 2023, the Leopards reached the semifinal of the AFCON as they lost to eventual champions Ivory Coast. Speaking to Canal + Africa Sport's flagship show Talent D'Afrique, Wissa said they can match Senegal. "I think it is a good draw. Even if we meet Senegal, it's a fairly homogeneous group. We're going to meet Senegal again, who we're facing for the World Cup."
Senegal and DR Congo are also in the same qualifying group for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Sebastian Désabre's charges forced a 1-1 draw in Diamniadio, Dakar back in June 2024.
Wissa expects the upcoming AFCON, set to take place beginning late 2025, to be a good one for his team. He is enjoying a great season at English Premier League side Brentford bagging eleven goals thus far. The pacy striker is now the all-time top goal scorer in the Premier League for the Bees surpassing Ivan Toney.
