AFCON 2025: The field is set! Draw completed for finals in Morocco

The groups have been drawn for the 35th edition of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after the final draw was held on Monday, January 27, at the Mohammed V National Theatre in Rabat, Morocco.


This year’s tournament will be held from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, with Morocco serving as the host nation.


The draw placed twenty-four qualified teams into six groups composed of four teams each.


The Groups


Here is the breakdown of the groups for AFCON 2025:


Group A: Morocco, Mali, Zambia, Comoros


Group B: Egypt, South Africa, Angola, Zimbabwe


Group C: Nigeria, Tunisia, Uganda, Tanzania


Group D: Senegal, DR Congo, Benin, Botswana


Group E: Algeria, Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea, Sudan


Group F: Côte d’Ivoire (holders), Cameroon, Gabon, Mozambique

AFCON Legacy: Record-Breaking Champions


Egypt remains the record-holder with seven titles, followed by Cameroon with five.


Côte d’Ivoire and Nigeria each have three titles to their names.


Twelve of the twenty four participating teams have previously lifted the AFCON trophy, collectively boasting a staggering twenty-eight championships.
