Head coach of Ghana’s U-20 male team, Desmond Ofei has revealed his immediate ambition for the AFCON U-20 tournament which is eight days away in Egypt.

The Black Satellites are paired in Group C alongside defending champions Senegal, DR Congo and Central Africa Republic with the group to housed in Suez. Ofei, who guided the four time African Youth Champions to a second place at the WAFU Zone B tournament in Togo, says the immediate aim is to qualify for the next stage.

“Our immediate goal is to get out of the group stage. From there, we take it one step at a time. “Of course, the long-term aim is to win the tournament and qualify for the U-20 World Cup, but we’ll do that by staying consistent and focused on the process.” he told CAF media.

The clash against Senegal is touted as one of the toughest fixtures of the tournament but Ofei remains focused despite admitting that facing the title holders will not come easy.

“It’s a big match, no doubt. But we’ll treat it like any other: with respect, focus, and confidence. We’ll execute our tactical plan, stay disciplined, and be fearless in key moments.”

The top two teams from each group, plus the two best third-placed teams, will advance to the quarter-finals. The tournament is set to kick off on Sunday, April 27, 2025, and will conclude with the final on May 18, 2025.

It will showcase the best young football talents from across Africa, with teams competing not only for continental glory but also for a spot in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile later this year.
