Nigeria will look to add the U-20 Africa Cup trophy to their cabinet after securing the WAFU ZONE B Cup.

The Flying Eagles qualified for the tournament in Ivory Coast after beating the Black Satellites of Ghana 2-1 in the finals of the WAFU ZONE B in Togo. The team’s winger, Clinton Jephta has declared that they want to again be champions of Africa at U20 level.

They are drawn in ‘Group of Death’ along with Morocco, Egypt and South Africa. “We want to win the U20 AFCON,” the Enyimba winger said after their friendly win over Ivory Coast.

The Flying Eagles defeated Ivory Coast by 2-0 in a friendly game to prepare for the tournament and Jephta said that, the team took their chances in the second half on Wednesday to beat the host nation.

“It was not a bad game. In first half, we got a lot of chances, but could not use them, but we came back in the second half to use our chances,” he recounted. “It was easy for us in the second half because we dominated the Ivorians in the second half and we won the match with determination and a positive mindset.

“The Ivorians are good side with talented players, but they were not lucky against us.” Both teams will clash again in Abdijan Friday in a second test match. The Flying Eagles have won seven U20 AFCONs and will now be gunning for another title when the tournament kicks off April in Cote d’Ivoire.

The U20 AFCON will serve as qualifiers for this year’s FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile.
