Tanzania U-20 national team coach Juma Kaseja has called on his team to fight for the honour of representing the national flag at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations finals.
The 24th edition of the U-20 AFCON kicks off in Cote d’Ivoire between April 26 and May 18 where 13 nations including Tanzania will battle for the continental crown. The youth tournament in Cote d’Ivoire is a big platform for all participating nations, as it will serve as the qualifying competition for the FIFA U-20 World Cup scheduled in Chile later this year.
Kaseja, who recently retired from his goalkeeping career after stints with clubs like Young Africans and Simba SC, has called upon his side to give their all for their nation when the tournament gets underway in less than two months’ time.
“The draw was open and it was a good draw and fair. We rely on great competition in our group, we have to prepare early because we need to do better in the tournament."
“Tanzania has a chance to do well, the competition in our League and having players who play outside of Tanzania makes us confident, together we must fight for the opportunity to play for our country," he told CAF Online.
This year’s finals mark Tanzania’s second appearance following their 2021 debut in Mauritania where their campaign ended in the group stages.
