The Ethiopian Football Federation confirmed the U17 Women national side have progressed to the second round in the African U17 Women World Cup qualifier encounter. Ethiopia at first set to play Zimbabwe in the qualifier but the latter forfeited the round.
EFF on Tuesday December 31st confirmed the new development in an official statement. No official reason has been given as to why Zimbabwe withdrew from the qualifier.
The statement seen by Pan-Africa Football reads, "Upon the withdrawal of Zimbabwe from the qualifier, we can confirm the doubleheader has been canceled giving us an automatic qualification to the second round."
Ethiopia U17 women national side coach Rawda Ali summoned her 23 players squad for preparation on Monday. The new development might push the preparation date, sources at EFF told Pan-Africa Football.
The first round game was slated for January 25. Now Ethiopia has got an automatic bye to the second round, they will face the winner of Egypt and Cameroon.
