African stars on the score sheet as Le Havre claim important win at Lille

Three African stars were on the score sheet in a French Ligue 1 fixture between Lille and Le Havre on Saturday.


The week 21 pairing produced a scintillating action with the first half of the encounter finishing goalless at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy. The resumption of the second department of the encounter retained the high level exchanges with Le Havre shooting themselves ahead of the 38th minute mark through the boot of Egyptian forward, Ahmed Hassan.


The visitors, who are bent on climbing out of the relegation zone, netted the second on the 56th minutes through Senegal winger, Issa Soumare. Le Havre showed more grit with the introduction of Ghana captain, Andre Ayew for Mahamadou Diawara on the 76th minutes.


As the the visitors looked to be cruising to a 2-0 victory, Lille’s new signing, Chuba Akpom of Nigeria pulled a consolation in added time but it was a little too late to rescue any point for the home side.


Notwithstanding the win for Le Havre, they are still rooted in the relegation spot of 17th on 17 points from 21 games with Lilles safe in 5th on 35 points.
