Marcel Koller, the head coach of Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly, expressed his thoughts following their 0-0 draw against South Africa's Orlando Pirates in the second round of CAF Champions League.
In statements reported by Al Ahly's official website, Koller remarked:
"The game was tough and competitive for both sides. Our performance improved significantly in the second half. We had some chances, as did the opponents, but neither of us managed to convert them into goals. In the end, the match ended in a goalless draw."
Koller highlighted the team's aim to secure a win while acknowledging the quality of the opposition:
"Of course we played to win but we cannot overlook the quality of Orlando Pirates especially on their home ground and in front of their fans. Given these factors, I see the draw as a satisfying result. Securing a point away from home in such a challenging match is a positive outcome."
He also spoke about the weather saying:
"The match was played under very difficult weather conditions with extremely high humidity levels that impacted the overall performance."
Following the result both Al Ahly and Orlando Pirates have four points each at the top of Group C with Ahly holding the advantage due to goal difference.
