Ali Maaloul, Al Ahly’s legendary Tunisian left-back, decided to leave the Egyptian club during the current winter transfer window as confirmed by his agent John Edward to Egyptian website Filgoal.

This decision comes amid unresolved uncertainties surrounding the player’s future with the team.

Despite signing a new contract after the expiration of his previous deal last season, Maaloul has yet to be registered with the team this season due to a long-term Achilles tendon injury sustained in May 2024 during the CAF Champions League final against Tunisian side Espérance.

The agent revealed to Filgoal that the decision to part ways was made to relieve any pressure on Al Ahly’s board and head coach Marcel Koller.

With January drawing to a close, no discussions regarding Ali Maaloul’s future have taken place between his representatives and Al Ahly's management according to his agent's statements to Filgoal.

Having joined the club in 2016, he became one of the most iconic players in Al Ahly's modern era.

John Edward added in these statements that throughout his career with Al Ahly, Ali Maaloul received several tempting offers from other clubs, offering salaries more than multiple times his earnings with the Egyptian club. But every time his contract ended, the Tunisian left-back preferred to renew his contract and continue writing history with Al Ahly.

Ali Maaloul's departure brings an end to a remarkable chapter in Al Ahly’s history.
