Al Ahly midfielder Mohamed Magdy "Afsha" has reached out to the club’s supporters following their dramatic loss to Pachuca of Mexico in the 2024 FIFA Intercontinental Cup semi-finals.

Afsha took to his Instagram account to apologize after Al Ahly’s 6-5 defeat in a penalty shootout following a goalless draw in regulation and extra time.

“I’m truly sorry. I really wanted us to win but it wasn’t meant to be,” Afsha wrote. “I know you’re upset and it’s a really upsetting thing. This was a huge chance to put Al Ahly in the place it truly deserves.”

Reflecting on the match, Afsha acknowledged: “Penalty shootouts are a game of luck and the ball was close. Nobody fell short during the game itself; we were close to finishing it but that’s football.”

He continued:

“This season is very tough. We have a CAF Champions League game in two days, followed by the pressure of the league. Without your usual support, this will be a difficult season."

He used the famous cheer of Ahly fans which says: "Through the highs and lows we are with it (refers to Al Ahly)."

Then Afsha concluded:

"Accept my apology, and we’ll comeback to bring joy back to you.”

Al Ahly’s journey in the Intercontinental Cup ended in heartbreak as they fell to Pachuca 6-5 in a dramatic penalty shootout.
