Al Ahly sporting director Mohammad Ramadan confirmed that Percy Tau missed the team’s training sessions over the past two days due to severe flu and back pain.

Tau is currently undergoing treatment and is expected to rejoin team training on Friday. The South African forward last featured for Al Ahly in the Intercontinental Cup 2024 semi-final against Mexico’s Pachuca last Saturday. The game ended in a 6-5 penalty shootout defeat with Tau successfully converting his spot-kick.

Al Ahly’s next fixture will be against Algeria’s CR Belouizdad on Sunday, December 22, in the rescheduled CAF Champions League third-round match. Tau, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the 2024-25 season, has seen his role decrease for Ahly this season with the 30-year-old appearing mostly off the bench.

He has two goals and zero assists in eleven appearances across all competitions, his two goals coming in a 3-0 CAF Champions League victory on September 15 against Kenya's Gor Mahia in the qualifying stages.
