Al Ahly striker Wessam Abou Ali expressed his happiness at seeing the official version of the FIFA Club World Cup trophy and confirmed that he hopes to face Real Madrid with Al Ahly. He also stated that he is ready to return to matches following an injury.
The official version of the FIFA Club World Cup trophy arrived at Al Ahly this week and a commemorative photo was taken today with the Al Ahly team inside the club.
Wessam Abou Ali spoke in an interview with Al Ahly's official website, and here are his statements according to the Egyptian club’s website:
Wessam Abou Ali said: “I am certainly very happy to see the original version of the FIFA Club World Cup trophy during its presence at the Tetsh Stadium. We have great ambitions in the tournament to make Al Ahly fans happy and to honor African football in general. The design of the trophy is truly amazing, and what made me happiest was seeing Al Ahly’s name engraved on it.”
He added: “These are truly historic moments, to have such a prestigious and significant trophy at Al Ahly club. The tournament is not easy, but at Al Ahly, we are always accustomed to entering every competition with only one goal: to compete. We, as players, will be ready and will prepare properly to give our best and make the fans happy.”
He revealed a special moment related to Argentine star Lionel Messi after joining Al Ahly, saying: “Since I joined Al Ahly, I have been well aware of its value, its titles, and the magnitude of its fanbase. I have achieved some successes with the team, but there was a very special moment when I saw my picture next to the picture of Lionel Messi on the ticket for the opening match between Al Ahly and Inter Miami. Even my father spoke to me about how, just a season ago, we were in Sweden and Denmark, and today, my picture is next to one of football’s legends in a major global event. This is what Al Ahly always adds to you.”
Regarding his dream in the tournament, he said: “We enter every competition looking to win the title. On a personal level, I dream of scoring one or more goals in the FIFA Club World Cup. However, this task is not easy, especially against a team like Inter Miami, which includes big names, led by Messi. Surely, the eyes of the world will be on this match, and it would be a great honor for me to score in this game.”
He added: “From my first day at Al Ahly, I got used to playing only to win. We will fight for 90 minutes in every match, and despite the presence of world-class teams, I feel that we are capable of achieving a new milestone. The entire organization is working towards achieving this dream. I have never faced Real Madrid before, but I hope it happens through the club.”
Recalling his experience watching Al Ahly in the FIFA Club World Cup, he explained: “I have watched many of Al Ahly’s matches in previous editions of the tournament. The last match I watched was against Al Ittihad Jeddah from Saudi Arabia, which the team won 3-0. A day before that game, Amir Tawfik spoke to me about moving to Al Ahly.”
He continued: “I am a player in the team and part of it. Supporting Gradisar and Mostafa El-Ash is natural. At any time, it is necessary to support those who are playing in the matches. What I have learned at Al Ahly, I must pass on to everyone. I spoke with Gradisar and asked him to enjoy playing and take advantage of his opportunities. We are all one team, and our only goal is to win to make the fans happy.”
He revealed his readiness after being away from matches: “I have been away from matches for a while, and it was a difficult period. However, I accept God's fate and decree. Now, I am ready and excited. I am hungry and eager to play, and I want to achieve a lot. I can't wait to return again, especially as the team is approaching big matches, whether in the league or Africa. My goal is to give everything, and I still have a lot to offer the fans.”
He added: “We have entered a tough phase and have strong upcoming matches against Ismaily and Zamalek. Every match is difficult, and the competition in the league is very intense. We always have the spirit, determination, and focus to achieve victories. The match against Zamalek, in particular, is a special occasion for me, and I dream of delivering a great performance and scoring. Certainly, our goal is to win the league title, which holds a special place for us. Personally, I do not like to lose any match or tournament.”
Moving on to talk about the new signings, he explained: “All of them are excellent players and real additions. They have gained the admiration of the fans. Mostafa El-Ash and Gradisar have performed well, and Achraf Bencharki is a well-known player. Their presence is reassuring, as they are quality players who can cover any absences. Gradisar has contributed to victories, and overall, competition benefits the team. This is something we are accustomed to at the club.”
He concluded: “I have great enthusiasm to return to playing matches, scoring goals, and celebrating with Al Ahly fans. God willing, the team will finish the season winning both the league and the African title while delivering the best possible performance in the Club World Cup.”
