Sudanese giants Al Merrikh SC have reportedly parted ways with head coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojević following a string of unconvincing performances.
The decision comes in the wake of Merrikh’s disappointing 1-0 defeat to ASC Snim in Mauritania's Super D1 on Friday night, a result that appears to have sealed the fate of the former Uganda Cranes tactician.
It should be recalled that both Merrikh and their archrivals Al Hilal SC are temporarily competing in the Mauritanian top flight due to the ongoing suspension of football in Sudan caused by political unrest.
Micho was appointed as Al Merrikh’s head coach in January this year, coming in with high expectations alongside former SC Villa boss Dusan Stojanović as an assistant. The duo was tasked with steering the club to improved performances and restoring its competitive edge.
However, Micho’s tenure has failed to live up to the billing. He has been in charge of 10 matches, registering four wins, two draws, and four losses. Worryingly, three of those defeats have come in his last four games highlighting a sharp dip in form that made his dismissal all but inevitable.
Al Merrikh currently sit 6th on the Mauritania Premier League table, having collected 36 points from 25 games, a position far below the club’s ambitions.
