The race at the top of the table remains tight in Algeria's Ligue 1 Professionnelle and CR Belouizdad made their latest move on Wednesday with a 3-0 victory over USM Khenchela at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers.
Goals from Khanyisa Mayo, Rizki Hamroune and Bilal Boukerchaoui moved CRB into top spot for the time being, giving Le Grand Chabab a positive result following their defeat to MC Alger in the Super Cup last Saturday.
South African attacker Mayo opened the scoring in the 28th minute after a quick team movement opened up space for the former Cape Town City star to fire in from eighteen yards out.
Mayo was forced off ten minutes later with an injury but his departure did not have any negative effect for the day. His replacement, Hamroune, doubled the lead early in the second half with a fierce effort following his dribble run into the USMK penalty area. Boukerchaoui completed the scoring in the final ten minutes with a sensational run into the box before his clever finish.
Earlier in the day, JS Saoura moved further away from the relegation zone with a 2-0 victory over MC Oran. Late goals from Oussama Bentaleb and Ismail Saadi confirmed victory for JSS in a battle between clubs who have struggled early in 2025.
Round 16 continues on Thursday with two clashes including an intriguing duel between top five clubs MC Alger and JS Kabylie.
