MC Alger made a limited impact in the transfer window in January but one signing, Guinean striker Mohamed Bangoura, made a crucial contribution in MCA's 2-1 victory over CS Constantine on Friday.
The signing from Guinean club Hafia came off the bench for his debut and provided the match winner. Bangoura joined a fellow sub-Saharan African player, Ivory Coast's Kipre Zunon, on the list of goal scorers for the Mouloudia club who overcame an early deficit. Mounder Temine scored inside five minutes for CSC who have only won once in their last eight league matches.
Friday's late clash was a thrilling battle that saw heavy support for both clubs but MCA showed their ability to obtain the necessary result despite early setbacks. In the earlier match, JS Kabylie ended a four-match winless streak with a 2-1 result over Paradou AC. Mohamed Madani's 81st minute penalty was the difference after PAC's Ouanisse Bouzahzah canceled out Berkane Redouane's early goal.
Following the day's results, MC Alger now lead closest rivals CR Belouizdad by five points while JS Kabylie move level with third place USM Alger who are eight points back of leaders MCA. Action from Algeria's Ligue 1 Professionnelle will resume next weekend.
