Algerian Ligue 1 leaders JS Kabylie are weighing their options to find a replacement for their former head coach Abdelhak Benchikha. Benchikha unexpectedly resigned after an Algerian Cup game victory where JSK progressed to the Round of 16.
Some Algerian media outlets stated over one hundred CV's were received by Kabylie for the position. The club commenced on filtering the names on January 7th with former Comoros national team coach Amir Abdou among the names that have submitted CV's for the job.
Abdou's most recent position was as head coach of Mauritania, which he left after attempting to latch on with a Moroccan club. Abdou is well known for guiding Comoros to the Round of 16 at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
German national Josef Zinnbauer is another coach interested in coaching JSK. The former Orlando Pirates trainer previously worked for Raja Casablanca and Saudi Pro League side Al Wehda, leading Raja to a domestic league and cup double last season. Ex-Poland national team head coac Czeslaw Michniewicz is also among the favorites to take the helm at JSK.
It is certain that the Algerian league leaders will go for a foreign coach instead of a native one. The JSK board tried in vain to convince Benchikha to reverse his decision and even criticized the experienced coach for his method of leaking the news of his resignation to the press before contacting the club. JSK is expected to name the new head coach in the coming days.
