The Algerian Football Federation has received an official letter from Qatari club Al Shamal SC, informing them of Mohamed Omar Rafiq’s decision to retire from representing the Algeria national team.

The player confirmed his decision with a signed letter, which was attached to the club's correspondence.

Mohamed Omar Rafiq, a 21-year-old winger, has featured in 21 matches this season, scoring 6 goals, and providing 3 assists. On the international stage, he previously represented Algeria’s U-20 national team, making 6 appearances and scoring 2 goals.

The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) expressed its astonishment and sorrow at Rafiq’s decision, especially given that he was a member of the FAF academy and had the opportunity to wear Algeria’s colors at the youth level.

The federation reiterated that playing for the national team remains a great honor, open to every player willing to represent Algeria with commitment and pride.
