New England Revolution's latest signing, Allan Oyirwoth has expressed his excitement about joining the Major League Soccer (MLS) side while also sharing insights from his recent meeting with Uganda Cranes legend Ibrahim Sekagya, who is currently the head coach at New York Red Bulls II.
Oyirwoth who officially joined the Revolution on January 23, 2025, when he turned 18 is settling in well at his new club. “I am really excited to join New England Revolution. It’s a good team with amazing people around—loving and caring—which is making me feel at home. I must say I am settling in well though it’s early days and I expect the best here so that I can move to another level and raise our flag of Uganda.”
One of the key moments in Oyirwoth’s early days in the U.S. was meeting Ibrahim Sekagya, a Ugandan football icon with vast experience in both playing and coaching. The young midfielder was grateful for the advice and mentorship he received.
“He is really an amazing person, an icon, role model and a legend who is very knowledgeable about football. I must say he is someone every upcoming and aspiring footballer needs to associate with so that they can develop. I was happy and humbled to meet him for the first time and he guided me and advised me on a number of things by sharing his personal experiences especially in the USA.
"He assured me of his availability for me anytime despite being attached to different teams, which will help me a lot in adapting to many things in the MLS and the USA at large. I just can’t wait to meet him again.”
Oyirwoth’s Journey to MLS Born in Amor, Pakwach in Northern Uganda, Oyirwoth has already made a mark on international football, earning two caps for the Uganda Cranes. He made his senior debut in a FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Somalia on November 21, 2023, where he registered an assist in a 67-minute performance.
He also featured in a friendly against Kuwait on January 19, 2024. The 6’1” central midfielder first gained prominence with Uganda’s U-20 team at the 2023 African Games, where he scored against Senegal and played a key role in Uganda’s 2-1 win over Nigeria. Oyirwoth has an impressive list of accolades from youth football competitions.
In 2023, he was named the Teso Zone MVP after finishing as the top scorer in the zonal school competition. He later won the USSSA National Football Championship MVP award after leading the goal-scoring charts in the 64-school tournament.
His performances continued to shine internationally, topping the scoring charts at the International Schools Football (ISF) Championship in Morocco before repeating the feat at the Federation of East African Secondary Schools (FEASSSA) competition.
Later in 2023, he was named MVP of the Buganda Masaza Cup while playing for Gomba and also won the MVP award at the National Football Championship, where his Amus College side finished as runners-up.
His standout performances earned him a move to England in February 2024 for a six-month stint at Brooke House College and Academy, a renowned football development program with ties to English Premier League clubs.
Looking Ahead to the 2025 MLS Season Oyirwoth will be the second youngest player on the New England Revolution roster for 2025 MLS season. His contract runs through the 2028 MLS season, with a club option for 2029. New England Revolution kick off their 2025 MLS campaign on February 22 against Nashville SC.
