Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed Nigeria international Victor Boniface will not be available to face Borussia Dortmund in a Bundesliga fixture at Signal Induna Park on Friday.

The Super Eagle was involved in a minor road accident where he sustained injuries. Speaking after the accident, the Bundesliga champions reassured fans that the Nigerian striker emerged largely unscathed, with only minor injuries reported.

However, ahead of the Dortmund game, Alonso confirmed Boniface was not ready to be involved. “We were hoping that he would be back in training on January 2nd. That’s a shame,” explained Alonso as quoted by Bild.

“We have to be patient so that he gets back to his best shape and we get a better feel for the injury. The most important thing now is that we support him.

“Normally, it’s not enough for next week. I don’t know. It’s better for the doctor to ask, but Boni needs a little more time, I can say that.”

So far this season, Boniface has managed eight Bundesliga appearances and scored six goals. He has raked in 663 minutes of playtime. Last season, he managed 24 appearances and scored 14 goals.
