AmaZulu co-coach Arthur Zwane says his side had to dig deeper to upset Magesi FC 1-0 in a Betway Premiership match at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Limpopo Province on Saturday.

He said this after Hendrick Ekstein’s goal handed Usuthu a win to end a two-game winless run and move from 12th to ninth place in the standings.

“Playing a third game in 10 games was always going to take its toll on the players,” Zwane said. “They would never give it to us on a silver platter. We had to dig deep. We had to give our best especially as we were coming from a loss to Sekhukhune United. They made our life difficult.”

Usuthu went into the match while smarting from a 2-0 loss to Sekhukhune United in a game Zwane and company said they rued missed scoring chances.

Meanwhile, the defeat leaves Magesi rooted at the bottom of the table with seven points from 13 games, leaving new coach Owen Da Gama winless and without a goal in two league games since he took charge after Clinton Larsen’s resignation last month.
