English Premier League cellar dwellers Southampton ended a 13-match winless run in league play on Saturday and it was their Nigerian contingent who powered the Saints to a 2-1 victory at Ipswich Town.

Midfielder Joe Aribo opened the scoring soon after the twenty minute mark, marking his 3rd goal of the season when his volley snuck past Ipswich goalkeeper Arijanet Muric.

Liam Delap equalized for Ipswich ten minutes later to leave the teams level at the half. Despite being away from home, Southampton continued to fight their hosts in an even clash and were rewarded for their perseverance when giant striker Paul Onuachu arrived to turn in a rebound after Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana's initial effort was spilled by Muric.

After an uneventful start to life in English football following his big €18 million transfer from Belgian club Genk to Southampton during the 2022-23 season, Onuachu is starting to show positive signs after spending last season on loan in Turkey with Trabzonspor. The 30-year-old has two goals in his last three matches but time is running out on Southampton, who sit last place and have yet to even reach double digit points.

Aribo, Onuachu and Sulemana are in action again next Saturday when Southampton host EFL Championship side Burnley in the FA Cup in the Round of 32.
