After three successful seasons in Sweden's top division Allsvenskan with BK Häcken, Ivorian midfielder Romeo Amane is off to a bigger stage following Thursday's confirmation of his transfer to Austrian Bundesliga club Rapid Wien.

The 21-year-old former ASEC Mimosas youth product's move was announced by Häcken after a successful spell with the Swedish club. Amane joins Rapid Wien for a reported fee of €2.5 million and will attempt to help the club push for a league title in Austria's top division. Die Grün-Weißen currently sit in third place in the Austrian Bundesliga, eight points back of league leaders Sturm Graz.

Amane followed the path of compatriot Bénie Traoré, who also moved to Häcken from ASEC and thrived in Swedish football before completing a big money transfer to Sheffield United who were competing in the English Premier League at the time. Sweden continues to be a popular destination for young Ivorian footballers with the Scandinavian country hosting prominent youth football tournaments as well as closer relationships with Ivorian clubs.

Amane, a talented central midfielder known for his intelligent passing, tactical discipline and high work rate, made 97 appearances in all competitions for Häcken with 8 goals and 10 assists. He competed in the UEFA Champions League, the Europa League and also the Conference League with Häcken.
