Nigeria international Taiwo Awoniyi came off the bench to score his first Premier League goal of the current campaign as Nottingham Forest hammered Wolves 3-0 at the Molineux.

Forest raced to the perfect start, as Gibbs-White collected the ball deep and strode into the Wolves half, before playing a slick one-two with Elanga and side footing the return past Joss Sa and into the back of the net to open the scoring.

The second goal arrived when Sels switched play out to Hudson-Odoi, who broke towards the byline before squaring to the penalty spot for an ever-present Chris Wood to score his 12th goal of the season.

In the second half, Wood made way for Awoniyi, who immediately looked to trouble the Wolves defence, latching onto a poor pass-back from Matt Doherty but prodding just wide.

However, the Super Eagle was rewarded when he reaped the rewards of his hard work since his introduction, as Nikola Milenkovic’s lofted ball was met by Hudson-Odoi and played through to another fresh substitute in James Ward-Prowse, who squared for Awoniyi to tap into an empty net.

It’s a glorious start to the year for the Nigerian forward, who has had it tough before the game. Out of 15 matches played so far this season, Awoniyi has scored one goal and made zero assist.

Last season for Forest, Awoniyi made 20 Premier League appearances, scored six goals and provided three assists. Before linking up with Forest in June 2022, Awoniyi made 31 league appearances in total at Union Berlin, scoring 15 goals and providing one assist.

In his Premier League career overall, he has played 62 times in the competition, with 17 goals and four assists.

He will hope to continue with the form when the Reds return to action on Saturday against Luton Town in the FA Cup at The City Ground, and will be at home again on Tuesday when they tackle table leaders Liverpool in the Premier League.
