Burnley FC coach Scott Parker has hinted that highly-rated South African striker Lyle Foster is a few weeks away from returning to competitive action after a four-month injury lay-off.
Parker gave an update on the Bafana Bafana star’s recovery while briefing the media on Thursday's Boxing Day trip to Sky Bet Championship leaders Sheffield United.
Commenting on Foster, the coach said: “Lyle is not too far off now, he's been on the grass for a while. We're looking at a few weeks, it's just about making sure it's right and making sure we don't set him back."
The Clarets coach also has the luxury of more players recovering from injuries with the likes of Josh Brownhill, Josh Cullen, Hannibal and Josh Laurent available for midfield selection.
The 24-year-old former Orlando Pirates striker suffered knee injury while featuring for South Africa in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers in October, the latest setback for the player who was sidelined by mental illness issues in the last Afcon final edition held in Ivory Coast.
Foster, who is capped 12 times and has four goals, is the main frontman for Burnley who sit in third place in the standings, four points behind the leaders Sheffield.
The South African won the Clarets fans' Goal of the Month award for August after an absolute stunner he authored in the 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers.
