South African international Jamie Webber has joined FC Tulsa in America’s second-tier United Soccer League (USL) Championship. The contract duration is not known.
The 27-year-old has completed the transfer from Betway Premiership team Sekhukhune United, a deal FC Tulsa described as “one of the most high-profile incoming transfers in USL Championship history.”
FC Tulsa Sporting Director and General Manager Caleb Sewell has since described the South African’s capture as ‘a landmark moment for FC Tulsa, not just as a club, but as a rising force in the American soccer landscape.’
He described Webber as a high-rated player with an international profile.
“Jamie brings leadership, experience, and creativity in the middle of the park. We believe he’ll elevate everyone around him. This signing signals our ambition, and we’re proud to welcome one of the most respected midfielders from the South African Premier Division into our ranks,” Sewell told FC Tulsa's website.
Webber managed four league goals this campaign with Sekhukhune United. Overall, he made 129 league appearances. Webber most recently represented Bafana Bafana in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers and scored against Egypt. He will now be ineligible to represent South Africa in the CHAN finals for domestic-based players in August
Before moving to Sekhukhune United, Webber had stints with SuperSport United in 2018 after joining from Stellenbosch, where he made 27 league appearances and scored one goal.
