Nigeria international Calvin Bassey scored in normal time as Fulham stretched Manchester United to penalties and won 4-3 to qualify for the quarterfinals of the FA Cup at Old Trafford on Sunday.

In the fifth round fixture, Bassey headed his side into the lead at the end of the first half, getting on the end of a clever Rodrigo Muniz flick at a corner.

However, Bruno Fernandes’ crisp strike midway through the second period restored parity, and that was the way it stayed until the 120 minutes were up, leading to the shootout.

Fulham opened the scoring with impeccable timing, executing a set-piece regime perfectly. Muniz flicked Lukic’s corner on towards the far post where Bassey had escaped his man to power home a header.

After drawing 1-1 after 90 minutes and extra-time, the tie went to spot-kicks, with Bernd Leno making two saves to claim a 4-3 victory for his side, and the last sixteen berth that came with it.

Another Super Eagle, midfielder Alex Iwobi, featured in the game but was withdrawn in the 107th minutes for Ryan Sessegnon. In the Premier League, Bassey has managed 26 matches for the Cottagers and scored one goal.
