German football legend Bastian Schweinsteiger and the Union of European Football Associations delegation have arrived in Zambia with the UEFA Champions League trophy.
Schweinsteiger and the delegation have brought the trophy for display in Zambia’s tourist town of Livingstone. Before arriving in Zambia, the former Manchester United midfielder stopped over in South Africa, where he reminisced about the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Reflecting on his experience of playing at the World Cup, he said: “Whenever I hear that song, Shosholoza, I remember about South Africa.”
The tour offers football followers a rare opportunity to have an up-close experience with the coveted club football silverware. The trophy has visited Zambia, Kenya, and South Africa, the only African countries chosen for the tour.
Schweinsteiger has also travelled with the trophy to countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia, PR China, the Republic of Korea, and Japan.
