Home side AmaZulu came out on top in Friday's hard fought 1-0 Kwazulu-Natal derby victory over Richards Bay in the Betway Premiership.

Both teams had plenty to play for besides local bragging rights at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban. Relegation battlers Richards Bay showed their capabilties but a second half goal from Usuthu defender Taariq Fielies made the difference. Richards Bay goalkeeper Ian Otieno made an absolute mess dealing with a corner kick and Fielies was there to turn in for an easy finish.

Kenya national team goalkeeper Otieno's mistake was costly in a match that the Natal Rich Boyz will feel like they should have earned at least a point from. Richards Bay were the more dangerous team in the second half but a draw was probably the fairest result considering neither team looked particularly capable in attack.

AmaZulu strengthen their hold on seventh place on the table with the result but have played more matches than teams below them including Kaizer Chiefs, Chippa United and Golden Arrows. Richards Bay remain on shaky ground in thirteenth position, two points clear of SuperSport United who are in the relegation playoff position in 15th.

Four matches will take place on SAturday with Orlando Pirates traveling to face Polokwane City while Kaizer Chiefs host TS Galaxy in a major test for AmaKhosi whose struggles continue. Marumo Gallants host SuperSport United while Golden Arrows take on Chippa United.
