South African champions Mamelodi Sundowns continued their strong form on Saturday under recently appointed head coach Miguel Cardoso, winning 2-0 at Richards Bay in the Betway Premiership. Brazilian attackers Arthur Sales and Lucas Ribeiro provided the goals for Sundowns who now lead second placed Orlando Pirates by six points with two more matches played.
Sundowns faced some challenges from energized hosts Richards Bay but moments of class and precise finishing made the difference. Arthur, acquired for a steep €3.2 million fee from Belgian football, showed his qualify in the 19th minute when he received a pass from Ribeiro and slipped his low finish past onrushing Richards Bay goalkeeper Jamal Salim Magoola.
Salim Magoola perhaps could have done better on the second goal for Sundowns who doubled their lead soon after the hour mark. Ribeiro collected a pass on the right corner of the penalty area and cut inside to fire a left-footed effort that skipped beyond the reach of the Ugandan shot stopper and confirmed victory for the visitors.
