Orlando Pirates locked down the Polokwane City attack and a member of their vaunted defense, Nkosinathi Sibisi, also produced the winning moment in Saturday's 1-0 Betway Premiership victory away from home.
The Happy People were left satisfied after the Bucs captain bundled in from a free kick in the 67th minute to give his team all three points from a difficult fixture at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane. There were no ill effects from the news this week of Pirates head coach José Riveiro's imminent departure at the conclusion of the 2024-25 campaign.
Polokwane's meek attack offered little to trouble Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine as Amabhakabhaka closed the gap between themselves and leaders Mamelodi Sundowns to twelve points with three games still to make up on Masandawana.
Elsewhere in the early matches on Saturday from South Africa's top flight, Golden Arrows and Chippa United played to a scoreless draw while relegation battlers Marumo Gallants and SuperSport United also shared the points in a 1-1 result. Bradley Grobler's first half strike was cancelled out by Gallants defender Trevor Mathiane's goal just past the hour mark.
Kaizer Chiefs finish up Saturday's action (17:00 GMT) with a difficult duel at home against TS Galaxy.
