Magesi FC coach Owen Da Gama has reflected on his first league win in seven games in charge after stunning visiting Cape Town City 2-0 at Seshego Stadium in a top-flight league match for South Africa on Saturday.

Da Gama, who replaced Clinton Larsen last month, said it was not easy for him to turn things around; hence the struggles in the Betway Premiership.

"It is a lot of hard work. There is a reason why the team was at the bottom. There were a lot of things we had to fix. A lot off the field and then on the field. If you cannot get it right off the field, you have to get it right on the field,” he told SuperSport Television.

The former Orlando Pirates coach said he signed five players to add experience to Magesi hence the improved showing “We signed five players just to add impetus in terms of experience," he added.

Cape Town City coach Muhsin Etrugral said his side did not deserve to lose the game, attributing the result to questionable officiation.

"Not technically, not tactically we should win this game. I think there is nothing much to say. It seems every week, we are getting a penalty against us," he said.

Mcedi Vandala and Lehlohonolo Mtshali’s goals from either half handed Dikwena tsa Meetse their second league win of the season to move off the foot of the log table for the first time since December 2024. Ertugral's side has since dropped to seventh place.
