Malawian star Gabadinho Mhango has confirmed he will miss Sunday's Betway Premiership match against TS Galaxy in South Africa due to an ankle injury picked during the World Cup qualifiers last week.

Mhango limped off in the second at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on March 20 2025 when Malawi lost 0-1 to Namibia in a Group H qualifier for the FIFA World Cup. The ex-AmaZulu forward also missed the Flames’ away game in Tunisia on Tuesday due to the injury.

Now, with the international window over, his South African club will pay the cost of his absence. In an interview with Pan-Africa Football, the former Orlando Pirates star confirmed that he was yet to recover from the injury he picked while on national duty.

“I am not part of the playing squad for the game against TS Galaxy due to the injury. I may not say when I hope to be back but hopefully soon,” he said.

Mhango’s injury is a blow to Gallants as he was target on March 15 when they beat Cape Town City in a league match.

The Malawian has four league goals for the Free State-based side that is in the relegation zone, third from bottom with only one point separating them from equally troubled SuperSport United.

In Mhango’s absence, Gallants’ Moroccan coach Abdeslam Ouaddou can bank on striking options such as Daniel Msandami and Junior Zindoga to pull away from the danger zone.
