While a few South African clubs were involved in CAF club competitions over the weekend, five matches were played in the country's top division Betway Premiership with SuperSport United and Polokwane City among the winners.
On Friday, SuperSport put an end to a three-match winless streak and it was club legend Bradley Grobler who delivered the important winning goal late on. The 36-year-old striker, on as a substitute, was in the right place to finish a scrappy goal in the 89th minute for a 1-0 victory at Richards Bay. Earlier, in the first half, Richards Bay's Nkosikhona Ndaba saw his tame penalty kick saved by SuperSport goalkeeper Thakasani Mbanjwa.
The news was not as good for Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday, however, with a 2-0 defeat at Polokwane City. Lacking a reliable striker to finish their opportunities, Chiefs were scorched by a quick buildup from the hosts in the 17th minute that ended with South Africa national team playmaker Oswin Appollis finishing from a low cross by fullback Tlou Nkwe.
Mokibelo Ramabu added the second late on for Polokwane who are enjoying a strong campaign, currently sitting in third place while Chiefs are in ninth position. Elsewhere there were victories for Sekhukhune United, Marumo Gallants and TS Galaxy who all helped their cause in midtable clashes.
