With top South African club Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates on continental duty in the CAF Champions League, the Betway Premiership continued on with five matches over the weekend.
Kaizer Chiefs are back into the top five after AmaKhosi found a late goal from Mfundo Vilakazi on Sunday to down Sekhukhune United 1-0. The Chiefs academy product curled in a low finish in the 87th minute shortly after Sekhukhune defender Vuyo Letlapa was issued a red card for an off-the-ball incident. Chiefs move to fifth place and within a point of Sunday's opponents with the result.
Sundowns and Pirates are well ahead of the rest of the pack but Polokwane City continue to do their part to remain in a surprise position in the top three. The club based in Limpopo province edged SuperSport United with a 1-0 result away from home on Saturday and it was star Oswin Appolis who provided the decisive moment. The Bafana Bafana attacking dynamo produced an excellent first touch to receive Thato Letshedi's cross before firing in low for the only goal of the match.
Cape Town City continued their rise back into the top half of the table with a 2-1 victory over relegation battlers Richards Bay. A brace from French forward Amadou Soukouna gave Citizens coach Muhsin Ertegral something to celebrate on his 400th match in charge as a head coach.
Elsewhere it was all draws in matches featuring mostly teams in the bottom half of the table. Marumo Gallants found a second half equalizer through Malawian striker Gabadinho Mhango in their 2-2 draw at Chippa United while first half goals in quick succession left Golden Arrows and TS Galaxy sharing the points in a 1-1 draw.
