After all three matches on Saturday ended goalless in South Africa's top tier Betway Premiership, goals finally arrived from both of Sunday's clashes and it was Cape Town City supporters who left pleased.
The Citizens, under interim coach Muhsin Ertegral following the dismissal of Eric Tinkler, defeated Kaizer Chiefs by a 1-0 score in Cape Town. Chiefs looked more likely to score but the story of poor finishing popped up once again for AmaKhosi.
Venezuelan attacker Darwin Gonzalez provided the only goal of the match early in the second half for Cape Town City who only managed a couple of shots on goal in the entire match. Gonzalez got behind an exposed Chiefs defense and made no mistake with his finish to move the Citizens into 11th position. Chiefs are in 7th, 15 points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
Earlier on Sunday, surprise third placed club Polokwane City met a stingy Sekhukhune United side who earned a point with a 1-1 draw at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
The hosts opened the scoring with a freak goal in the 35th minute when Sekhukhune defender Trésor Yamba's clearance attempt took a wild ricochet off Raymond Daniels and into the goal. However the Congolese defender got forward to level the match six minutes later with a powerful header from Keletso Makgalwa's free kick service.
Polokwane remain in third place on 22 points but have played three more matches than Sekhukhune and Stellenbosch who are in fourth and fifth place on 17 and 16 points respectively.
