Three matches took place on Tuesday in South Africa's top flight Betway Premiership and Richards Bay were the only team who emerged with three points while Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu shared points in Johannesburg.
Kaizer Chiefs failed to bounce back from a controversial Soweto Derby defeat to rivals Orlando Pirates, playing to a 2-2 home draw with Durban club AmaZulu. AmaKhosi benefited from two own goals, the second of which coming courtesy of former Ghana national team goalkeeper Richard Ofori to level the match in the 63rd minute.
Usuthu defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele contributed the first own goal in favor of Chiefs, who held on to the lead for less than five minutes before AmaZulu attacker Rowan Human set up Tshepang Moremi's equalizer.
Human continued to display his playmaking abilities by providing the assist on Namibia national team striker Elmo Kambindu's goal around the hour mark before Ofori's own goal restored parity. Chiefs remain in 5th place on 22 points but on shaky ground with Stellenbosch FC appearing set to exile AmaKhosi from the top-5 in due time.
In a relegation battle happening simultaneously at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban, Richards Bay prevailed with an important 2-1 result at the expense of visitors Marumo Gallants. It was a dramatic revival for the hosts who fell behind early in the second half but rallied with two goals in the final ten minutes from Eswatini national team star Justice Figuareido and substitute Ntlonelo Bomelo.
Richards Bay, in 14th place on the 16-team table, move to within two points of Gallants and five points clear of bottom side Magesi FC. Magesi were also in action but saw their home match against Chippa United postponed after only 21 minutes in Polokwane. A hot start saw each team score in the opening five minutes but they will have to resume the match at a later date due to electrical failure at the evening match.
Results
Kaizer Chiefs 2-2 AmaZulu
Richards Bay 2-1 Marumo Gallants
Magesi 1-1 Chippa United (Abandoned after 21 minutes)
