Kaizer Chiefs midfielder midfielder Pule Mmodi has explained the importance of getting a win when they face Golden Arrows in their return to the Betway Premiership action at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.
Amakhosi will be looking to bounce back from their recent struggles in the top-flight having registered a disappointing run of results before the FIFA international break, after failing to pick up maximum points from their last two matches, against Cape Town City and Richards Bay respectively.
Mmodi has admitted they will face a tough challenge against Golden Arrows but stressed their desire was to get a win and make up for the lost ground.
“Golden Arrows is a good team, and with their new coach, they'll likely have a different approach. However, we're focused on our own game plan, and we're confident that we can get a result,” Mmodi told the club’s official website.
“We're aware that the league is entering its final stretch, and we need to be consistent in our performances. We are confident that we can make a strong finish to the season.”
Currently sitting in mid-table on 29 points from 22 matches, the Glamour Boys still have an opportunity to move up the log standings. “We're currently eighth on the table, but we still have a chance to finish in the top four. We'll be facing teams that are above us, and that's a great opportunity for us to make up ground.”
On their inconsistent form, Mmodi explained: "I think, to be fair, we've been playing good football, but we need to work on winning games and scoring goals. As a forward player, I know that I need to contribute more in terms of goals. We strive to win all the games that are remaining and give our best.”
On his impressive form so far this season, Mmodi said: "At the beginning of the season, I faced challenges adapting to the new coaches and staff. However, I think for me to be on form at this time of the season is because I have been working hard and improving where I was lacking.
“For me it’s all about hard work. Each time I play I give all my best for the team because its only for 90 minutes so, as a player, you just have to give all your best and after that you will see the good results.”
The fixture against Arrows marks the beginning of Chiefs' final push in the league, as the 2024/25 season enters its final phase.
