Lamontville Golden Arrows FC coach Manqoba Mngqithi says poor decision-making cost his side maximum points after huffing and puffing to a goalless draw against battling Chippa United in Sunday’s Betway Premiership match in South Africa.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns boss, who has breathed new life into the Durban-based team, told SuperSport Television that his side could have won the game with better decision-making in the final-third.

“We had a lot of poor decisions in the first half, in the final moment. We were supposed to pass [the ball], we shot. We were supposed to shoot, but we passed. In the first half, we made too many wrong decisions in that final moment but in the second half, we were very strong. We created enough opportunities to get something,” he explained.

With the Betway Premiership heading into conclusion, Mngqithi said he was happy with how his players are understanding his playing philosophy.

“What I am happy about is that my boys are beginning to understand that they can control the game. I don’t remember any scary moments. I remember one save by my goalkeeper. We were not playing an easy team. Chippa has been doing very well. They have beaten Golden Arrows twice already this season,” he said.

Chippa United coach Thabo September said his side worked hard to get a point from the away game.

“Let us take the positives. We defended very well. The structure was good and we had moments, especially in the first half. We suffered in the second half without the ball, but [playing] away you keep a clean sheet, that is a positive we need to take from this game,” September said.

Golden Arrows are in 10th place, one point behind the ninth-ranked Chippa United with both teams pushing for a top-eight spot.
