Stellenbosch will have to wait longer before moving into a top-five position in South Africa's Betway Premiership after running into a stingy Richards Bay side on Friday.

The hosts fell behind inside three minutes at the Danie Craven Stadium and could only muster a point in a 1-1 draw. Richards Bay took a surprise lead early on when Justice Figuareido's free kick on goal was spilled by Stellies goalkeeper Sage Stephens and Thato Mohlamme pounced to finish from the rebound.

The visitors defended fiercely, making it an uphill battle for favorites Stellenbosch to get back into the match. After holding out and creating some opportunities of their own, Richards Bay were forced to settle for a point when Fawaaz Basadien converted from the penalty spot for Stellies in the 78th minute.

matches are set for Saturday with top clubs Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates in action. Sundowns look for revenge when they host TS Galaxy after a surprise defeat two weeks ago while the Bucs host Cape Town City.
