Mamelodi Sundowns are not ready to give title rivals Orlando Pirates any hope of ending the Pretoria club's dominance of South Africa's Betway Premiership! The Brazilians cruised to a 4-0 victory over Golden Arrows at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday.
Pirates' victory in a controversial Soweto Derby on Saturday continues to dominate the conversation but for Sundowns it was business as usual. Visitors Golden Arrows managed to weather the storm for most of the first half but Lucas Ribeiro put Sundowns ahead from the penalty spot just before halftime.
Namibian hitman Peter Shalulile doubled the lead in the 65th minute and the visitors from Durban crumbled under the pressure. Shalulile completed his brace in the 80th minute and Teboho Mokoena completed the scoring six minutes later with a trademark strike from distance that was aided by a kind deflection.
Masandawana remain six points clear of the Buccaneers with one more match played. The winners of the last seven seasons in South Africa's top flight can focus on their domestic duties for the next month and Sunday's match is the first of four matches in nine days. Sundowns will next face SuperSport United on Wednesday.
Elsewhere over the weekend, Polokwane City continued to be the "best of the rest" after grinding out a 1-0 victory over Chippa United on Saturday while TS Galaxy and AmaZulu enjoyed wins as well. Stellenbosch and Sekhukhune United shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw while bottom side Magesi held on for a 0-0 draw despite being under siege against Richards Bay.
